Welcome to American Firearms Training, your California firearms training specialists. Our innovative, fun, and professional course, Introduction to Pistol Safety will give you all the pistol safety knowledge you need to safely handle and manipulate a firearm. The best part, the class is free! That's right, at American Firearms Training, we believe so strongly in spreading the word about pistol safety that we are offering the class free of charge to anyone that wants to learn.
Introduction to Pistol Safety is taught by a State Certified Law Enforcement Instructor and takes about 90 minutes to complete. The course is made up of 6 video sections, each of which is followed by a short quiz, and a final exam. You may take the course as many times as you would like.
Unfortunatley at the time American Firearms Training does not qualify in the State of California as a training outlet due to the guidelines set forth in code 12050(a)(1)(B) and (E) specifies that new license applicants must complete a course of training. The training may consist of any course acceptable to the licensing authority. The licensing authority may require either a course not to exceed 16 hours which includes instruction on at least firearms safety and the law regarding the permissible use of a firearm or a community college course not to exceed 24 hours certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. If the licensing authority requires the community college course, it must be uniformly required for all CCW license applicants. The licensing authority may also require annual qualification on the weapon(s) during the term for which the CCW license is granted.
California is a "May Issue" state, meaning the State of California has left the issuance of CCW licensing up to sheriff and municipal police departments. These departments may issue a CCW license if you are of good moral character and good reasoning exists. You will need to check with your local law enforcement department to find out their specific training requirements.
